Data is the heart of your business. Organizations, small, medium, or large, depending on data to function effectively. Companies have data centres for storing and managing their information safely and securely. In any unforeseen event of data loss, its likely to have impact affect your business. Data loss can occur due to accidental deletion, drive corruption, virus infection, and system crashes etc. Moreover, in a multi-user environment, the chances of data loss increase exponentially. The impact may be disruptive and counterproductive depending on the type of loss.

Physical data loss cases are found to be the most frequent source of trouble for all users. Physical media damage is more difficult to deal with than any logical damage. For hard drive failure, you need to follow the below-mentioned strategies:
  • If you had a boot disk failure, do not reboot from the drive. You should immediately remove the drive from your system and take help of professional data recovery services.   Any non-professional recovery attempt may damage your disk further and data permanently unrecoverable.
  • Do not attempt to run CHKDSK for repairing the file system. This would lead to overwriting of information stored on the drive.
  • If you have encountered a logical drive failure, try data recovery software. Download the software from a reputed site on a new drive/ partition. Then scan the drive to recover lost data.
  • Do not try to open the case of your drive. This task should be strictly performed in a sterile clean-room environment.
  • You should not try to replace the PCBs (Printed Circuit Board) of the failed drive. The swapped PCB may not be compatible with your drive. Any such attempt will destroy the drive and render it non-repairable.
  • In case of fire or water exposure, do not think of starting your system. It will damage the magnetic layer of your hard disk.
In any case of physical or logical drive failure, you should seek professional advice.
