Since yesterday, Outlook is refusing to open and the dialog box says mapi32.DLL is corrupted. It’s very common for us to get such frantic messages about Outlook MAPI32.DLL Error in our chat box. When a dialog box pops up and shows – “Outlook failed to start because mapi32.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem”
The immediate reaction is one of panic because Outlook is so important since it is a scheduling manager besides an email client.
But solutions are there.
Indeed mapi32.DLL (also known as MAPI32.DLL) errors are quite common with Outlook.
Let’s delve deeper and help you solve the problem.

Mapi32.DLL stops working because of four reasons:
- Faulty upgrade— Outlook upgrade frequently causes this problem. Usually, it happens a day or two after updating Office or a new patch.
- Cannot recognize— The mapi32.DLL file is in place, but for some reason, Outlook no longer recognizes it.
- Malware— A virus has altered the mapi32.DLL file in some way, and it no longer works with Outlook.
- Deleted— The file has been deleted (probably due to running a registry cleaner app).
How to Fix Outlook MAPI32.DLL Error?
1. Use System Restore
From the time of Windows XP, the OS takes a snapshot of itself and stores it. Of course, the System Restore has to be operational. By default, it is turned off in a new PC or after format.
Type in Search Bar, “System Restore” and Open
Click System Restore and Next
Choose from Restore Points.
Click Next.
The OS will now restore itself to what it was a day or two ago.
Note that System Restore only affects programs and not personal files. If you created fifteen Word documents and three PowerPoint presentations in the past four days, it would do nothing to them.
