Seagate rolled out two enterprise-class hard drives specifically targeting emerging cloud infrastructures and large scale data center. These drives are namely, the Seagate Terascale HDD and the Seagate Enterprise Performance 10K HDD v7. These drives are designed for specific uses: one is optimized for energy-efficient storage systems and the other will be used for high-performance storage.

This drive is designed in 3.5” form-factor and offers a capacity of 4TB. This HDD consists of a spindle rotating at 5900 rpm, a DDR2 cache of 64 MB, and the Serial ATA-600 interface. The performance of hard drive is impressive, featuring 140 MB/s – 170 MB/s maximum sustained data rate, 5.1ms average latency, and 12ms average seek time. Generally, the drive requires 6.9 W; however, the idle power consumption is 4.59 W.

The drive also features Seagate’s PowerChoice technology that can be used to minimize power consumption during idle intervals.
