The client is a leading innovator in natural resource management, dedicated to making India self-reliant in the coming decades. With large-scale operations in India, they rely on high-capacity storage systems to manage vast amounts of data.

The virtualization server was set up in RAID 5 and included multiple LUNs configured with Windows Server.

Addressing Key Challenges in Data Recovery:

The organization faced a major challenge when a critical error in their RAID 5 system caused one of the 4TB hard drives to fail, making their virtual machines (VMs) inaccessible. This put 25TB of important data, including MS Office documents and technical drawings, at risk.

We quickly implemented a recovery plan to restore access to the essential VMs, ensuring continued service and minimizing disruptions.

Issue:

The client’s RAID 5 system experienced a critical error due to physical damage in one of the 4TB hard drives, resulting in a virtual drive failure. Despite attempting a system reboot, the data remained inaccessible, with 25TB of crucial files, including MS Office documents, and technical drawings, at risk.

Data Recovery Actions & Approach:

We implemented a tailored recovery plan specifically designed to meet the unique needs of our client in the natural resource sector.

  • Initial Assessment:
    Our experts conducted a detailed analysis of the RAID 5 system, quickly identifying the physical damage to one of the 4TB SAS drives as the root cause of the virtual drive failure.
  • Client’s Action:
     Before contacting us, the client had only attempted to reboot the system, which did not resolve the issue.
  • Recovery Strategy:
  • Our experts assessed the hard drive, identified the specific issue, and took necessary actions to create a byte-to-byte clone.
  • After cloning all 24 HDDs, our team connected them to a dedicated system to analyze the HDD sequence, parity flow, and strip size. They discovered the presence of Sparsh VMs, enabling our R&D team to modify the proprietary tool to meet the case requirements.
  • We then employed advanced scanning techniques to recover the requested 25TB of critical data, including MS Office files, PDFs, DWG drawings, and ZIP archives.
     

Data Recovery Success:

We successfully performed data recovery on all 25TB of critical data, allowing the client to access essential business files. This recovery prevented potential operational downtime, enabling the customer to resume their operations without disruptions.
